Jamie fosters compassion in the work environment. One of Jamie's staff stated, “Jamie was newly on our floor; I had a very rough day with a patient situation that upset me. I felt like the family members were overriding the patient's wishes and subjecting her to procedures she actively didn't want. At a rough moment, I came into Jamie’s office, shut the door, and vented to her about how upset I was. Instead of being overwhelmed by my venting, Jamie helped calm me down and later gave me a card that thanked me for advocating for my patients. I keep that card next to my bed as a reminder during the rough times.” That was just one way Jamie promoted compassionate care in the unit. She also received a WOW moment, stating, “Last week, you were recognized at safety huddle through a comment shared by the patient experience leadership. This comment described how your presence on your unit and rounding on the patient was incredibly impactful. You contributed positively to their stay, and their efforts to ensure you were recognized formally further solidified your contribution. Bravo!” Jamie’s approach to rounding significantly impacted the patient, who felt a sense of care not only from the entire team but also from Jamie.

Jamie contributes to the environment by building trust, showing compassion and respect, and modeling ethical behaviors. One of her staff stated, “Jamie is a hands-on leader and often asks the team if she can help assist the team. She supported us by helping and jumping right in to be there for a patient while we were collecting blood cultures. Jamie held the patient’s hand and explained what they were doing. She was so comforting to the patient while he was distressed.” This had a significant impact on both the patient and the staff. The staff feels that Jamie has provided a safe and caring environment.
Jamie inspires her team by recognizing the unique motivations of each individual, which in turn fosters improved results for both the staff and the patients they serve. One of her staff stated, “She's funny and kind and takes staff input into account. She is willing to do whatever it takes to help her staff and to advocate for the 5A patients. I think SPAH is very lucky to have her.” Jamie actively facilitates communication during staff meetings, encouraging participation and soliciting feedback from the team on subjects that have contributed to the unit's ongoing success in improving patient outcomes.

You helped guide me through a difficult situation and provided education on the API system that I didn’t know. I appreciate you taking the time to both show and help me!” Jamie is a mentor to her team by actively listening and providing guidance to resolve issues and concerns.
Jamie consistently makes herself accessible to her staff. She is attentive to the needs of both her patients and her team.
