Hannah immediately leaving the room to get a new medicine order spoke volumes to me.
Our ED Director, who has stage 4 breast cancer, was admitted to SICU with a diagnosis of sepsis. She was very sick. Hannah was M's nurse for two days. I don't know this nurse personally nor have I dealt with her professionally, but she is a wonderful example of what a nurse should be. She was so attentive to M's needs. I was visiting M and she was actively vomiting. M's chemo was making her sick. She wakes up every morning vomiting. Hannah came into the room to help. As a nurse of 13 years myself, I was racking my brain on what medicine could be given to subside the nausea and vomiting. After a few minutes, I remembered a medicine called Kythl. I asked Hannah her thoughts on the medicine. Without hesitation, she left the room to speak with M's doctor about getting an order for it. In a few minutes, Hannah was back with medicine in hand. Hannah administered the medication and shortly after, M's vomiting subsided. She was able to get back in bed and start feeling a little better. Hannah immediately leaving the room to get a new medicine order spoke volumes to me. As a nurse, I can only imagine she had a million other things to do, but she made it a priority to ensure M got medicine to make her feel better. Every time I went to visit, Hannah was going in or already in the room tending to M's needs. Hannah has a phenomenal bedside manner. she is so sweet and explains everything so well. Hannah, thank you so much for being such a great nurse. Even as a nurse myself, you make me want to be a better nurse. Thank you for literally being amazing to us during such a difficult time. The world needs more Hannah Walkers.
