1st Nomination
While Physical Therapy (PT) was working with a TKA 1 day post-op, she overheard my questions to the patient about his dizziness. He had warmed up, walked from bed to the hallway, and then gone left. I asked the patient again how he was feeling, and he said the dizziness was worsening. Grace immediately grabbed him orange juice, which he drank no problem, thinking his blood sugar was low.
We got back to the room safely, with the patient sitting on the end of the bed. I brought him a cold washcloth for his forehead and head, and placed his fan directly on him while Grace took his blood sugar and his vitals. I touched base with Grace later, and she asked the hospitalist to check in on him. There may be concern about his meds. I checked back in with the patient, and he was in bed.
He reported he was still dizzy, and his knee felt good on CPM. Even though Acute Care was busy, Grace was on top of it and very attentive to this patient. I was very impressed by her concern and care. Even though it's her job, she went above and beyond, as she should in any situation. Grace was also working with a student at the same time. I feel Grace took excellent care of this post-op TKA, and his symptoms should resolve shortly.
2nd Nomination
I was a patient after emergency surgery for eight days. All the nurses were great and helpful. Traveling nurse Barry was so optimistic and told me funny stories, a very sweet guy. Grace is my number one. She always kept me informed of my condition, gave me meds, IVs, etc., as prescribed by the doctor. She encouraged me to walk, rest, and eat appropriately, and she shared a lot of medical knowledge with a smile. She's an excellent RN and a great asset to our community. SPH is blessed to have her. I felt loved and well cared for.
