Thanks to her leadership, innovation, and unwavering support for learners, Genesis has not only shaped individual nurses but has also advanced the overall quality of patient care at HCA Healthcare.
At HCA Healthcare, our mission is to care for and improve human life, and few embody this mission as fully as Genesis. One specific situation that highlights her dedication is a personal experience. Genesis made sure to always check on me and made it clear that she was a safe space for me.

When I encountered a conflict and bullying, Genesis was not only respectful of my request to remain anonymous, but also made sure to address the situation in such a professional manner. She advocated for me as a new nurse and made sure to stand up for me. She reassured me that I wasn’t alone and took extra care to address the situation appropriately.

Exemplifying HCA’s mission, vision, and values, a particularly challenging case arose when a critical care patient experienced a rapid decline due to sepsis. The bedside nurses, including a new graduate nurse, faced high stress and uncertainty. Recognizing the moment as an opportunity for learning and patient-centered care, Genesis stepped in—not only to guide the team clinically but also to exemplify compassion, accountability, and integrity. She ensured that the team remained patient-focused while upholding HCA’s commitment to high-quality care.

Understanding that clinical confidence develops over time, Genesis created a safe environment for learning by encouraging open discussion, debriefing with the nurses after the event, and reinforcing their critical thinking process. She was great at facilitating reflection sessions where new nurses shared their thoughts and concerns, fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous growth.

Following this incident, Genesis recognized gaps in how new nurses handled early signs of sepsis and collaborated with unit leadership to introduce a hands-on simulation. She partnered with physicians, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists to ensure a multidisciplinary approach, reinforcing the importance of teamwork in improving patient outcomes.

Genesis used real patient scenarios to help learners connect textbook knowledge to clinical judgment. She encouraged nurses to think critically about interventions, anticipate complications, and improve their decision-making skills, leading to increased confidence and competence at the bedside.

She consistently demonstrated safe, timely, and effective patient care by integrating evidence-based practice into their teachings. Her guidance empowered the nursing team to recognize early warning signs of deterioration, ultimately reducing response times and improving patient outcomes.

Beyond this single event, Genesis implemented a structured mentorship program that paired experienced nurses with new graduates, fostering a continuous learning culture. Her commitment to professional development inspired others, leading to an overall increase in nursing engagement and retention within the unit. Thanks to her leadership, innovation, and unwavering support for learners, Genesis has not only shaped individual nurses but has also advanced the overall quality of patient care at HCA Healthcare.
