During a moment filled with worry and uncertainty, Flo’s genuine compassion, positive energy, and personal connection brought us comfort and hope.
My 79-year-old father experienced a sudden and alarming loss of strength in his legs, sliding to the floor at home with no ability to get up. My mother called us, his children, to help, and we quickly realized he needed medical attention. We brought him to the Memorial Hermann CCC Emergency Care Center, where he was diagnosed with a severe cellulitis infection in his lower right leg, low blood pressure, impaired kidney function, and a fever. It was a scary and overwhelming moment for our entire family. He was transferred and admitted to Memorial Hermann Katy. That’s where we met Folusho "Flo" — his first day-shift nurse on the unit.
From the moment she entered the room, her warmth, kindness, and calm presence immediately put us at ease. She didn’t just check in on my dad — she truly showed up for him and for all of us. Flo was incredibly welcoming and attentive. She took the time to get to know us, made us feel seen, and even told us how much she appreciated our presence and how we brightened her day. What she may not have realized is how much she brightened ours. During a moment filled with worry and uncertainty, Flo’s genuine compassion, positive energy, and personal connection brought us comfort and hope. It was clear from the very beginning that my dad's care was not just a task to Flo — it was a responsibility she held with heart and integrity. She was attentive to his needs, quick to act, and consistently reassuring. She spoke to him with respect and gentleness, keeping him informed and involved. Her professionalism was outstanding, and her empathy made a lasting impact on our family.
Flo turned what could have been a very cold, clinical experience into something human — something healing. It’s easy to remember medical diagnoses, timelines, and lab results, but what we will remember most is how she made us feel. In those critical early hours of his hospital stay, she became a bright spot during a difficult time. We are so grateful for Flo and believe she represents the very best of what nursing can be. We enthusiastically nominate her for this recognition and thank her for the lasting difference she made in our lives.
