Her commitment to making Veterans' healthcare the top priority is evident in everything she does.
Estelle Marshall consistently goes above and beyond in her care for the homeless Veterans at HPACT. She takes the time to develop meaningful relationships with each Veteran, listening attentively to their concerns, no matter how big or small. She responds to Veterans in crisis with compassion and professionalism, whether they are struggling with something as routine as bowel issues or as serious as suicidal ideation.
One example of her extraordinary dedication occurred when a homeless Veteran, living in his car, called in distress after his beloved dog choked and died. The Veteran was overwhelmed with grief and began expressing suicidal thoughts over the phone. Despite the challenge of not knowing the veteran's exact location due to his mobile living situation, this nurse did not give up.
She kept the Veteran on the phone, providing support and reassurance, while simultaneously contacting the Veteran Crisis Line and reaching out to friends who might know where he was parked. Through her persistence and resourcefulness, she coordinated a response and ensured the Veteran received the care he needed, ultimately resulting in a safe outcome.
This nurse approaches her work with dedication and genuine empathy, ensuring that every Veteran feels heard and valued. Her compassionate communication has led to increased engagement among our Veterans in their own healthcare. She is relentless in advocating for her patients, whether it means tracking down hard-to-find wound care supplies, ensuring medications are renewed promptly, or updating contact information so that no Veteran falls through the cracks. Her commitment to making Veterans' healthcare the top priority is evident in everything she does. She is a true asset to our team and an inspiration to all who work with her.
