She made our family feel supported and well cared for. She gave our family strength and comfort in our time of need.
Emily was so kind to me, my partner (who was the patient), and to his family during his stay at BI Needham’s ICU in his final days battling cancer. Emily cared for him with such empathy and compassion. Every time she would come into the room, she addressed him personally and truly listened to his concerns. Additionally, we are a large family, and she made sure to connect with each member personally and was so thoughtful at such a difficult time. She made our family feel supported and well cared for. She gave our family strength and comfort in our time of need. She delivered information to us in such a thoughtful manner and gave us time to process it. Whenever Emily would communicate with our son, she would get close, with eye contact, soft voice and an occasional handholding.
When the time came to begin hospice and say our goodbyes, you could tell Emily was genuine in her goodbye to him and to us. He ended up passing away in the ICU. We felt she truly took the best care of my brother-in-law in his final days. In very dark days Emily was a beacon of light, a very bad situation was made slightly more bearable because of the care and dedication that she showed. She truly cared about him and our family. It was the worst moment of our lives and she supported him and us. She let us ask her any questions we had and made him as comfortable as possible. We appreciate her knowledge and kindness.
She was so gentle with my brother. Emily continued to come into our ICU room to check on her patient but also to check in on our family. She always had time to talk to us and answer questions we had. She made us feel seen and heard. Emily made sure that anyone who was staying with the patient was comfortable and had everything they needed. She was attentive to the needs of the entire family. She engaged with the family to make sure we were all taken care of during his last days. She made sure that our son was comfortable. You could see through her eyes that she cared. At one point, when I was truly struggling, she could see it and just said, 'you're such a good partner to him.' People like Emily are a rarity in today's world. BI is fortunate to have someone like her on its team.
