My 16-year-old son committed suicide late. The paramedics were able to get vitals back, and he was airlifted to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Upon arrival, we knew the outcome was the worst. My son was on life support. We had to make the excruciating decision to stop life support.

Nurse Emily was a bright star in our most horrible moments. She was with us every step of the way. Making sure to explain everything that was going to happen or needed to happen. Making sure that his family was taken care of and had everything we could need. At one point, I was lying with my son, and she covered me with a blanket. She even stayed late on her shift, 4-5 hours, to try to stay with us till the end. I can't even begin to thank Emily enough for everything that she did. She is truly an amazing soul!
