This student stands out for her kindness, dedication, and strong clinical skills.
Ms. Cassagnol exemplifies the very essence of the DAISY Award through her remarkable compassion, clinical curiosity, and deep respect for the dignity of each patient she encounters.
One particularly moving example involved her care for an elderly, legally blind patient. The student approached this patient with extraordinary patience and gentleness —listening carefully as the patient described what she could and could not see, setting up her meal with thoughtfulness, and checking to ensure she had everything she needed, including assistance with feeding. The patient later shared with the clinical instructor that Ms. Cassagnol had treated her “like a person, not a problem.”
This level of empathy and attentiveness did not go unnoticed by staff. During leadership rounds, the charge nurse observed the student making meaningful connections with her assigned patients and offering to help other nurses without hesitation. She was seen asking insightful questions about patient care and showing interest during rounds, highlighting her commitment to learning and her desire to develop strong clinical judgment.
Ms. Cassagnol's dedication extends beyond her own assignments. She consistently stepped in for patients who needed help, regardless of who was assigned. Multiple nurses on the unit requested that she be paired with them, and several patients specifically asked when she would be returning. The impact she made was so profound that a nurse she collaborated with felt compelled to write her own DAISY nomination in recognition of her excellence.
This student stands out for her kindness, dedication, and strong clinical skills. She truly lives out the values of Jersey College and the nursing profession, showing empathy, integrity, and a deep commitment to caring for others.
