Dylan stepped in - not only to take over, but to teach. He explained vein selection techniques, demonstrated with patience, and encouraged her to try again.
One specific moment that captures how Dylan exemplifies HCA's mission and values was during a particularly challenging week when multiple new graduate nurses on our Med-Surg/Tele unit were struggling with IV insertions and time management. Instead of simply delegating or correcting from afar, Dylan made it his mission to personally round on each nurse, offering guidance and reassurance with a calm, approachable demeanor that perfectly reflected HCA's commitment to "Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life."

He took the time to review policies and procedures in real time, breaking down each skill step-by-step in a way that built confidence rather than fear. His genuine investment in learner development and interpersonal communication made every new nurse feel seen and valued, easing their transition into practice.

During one shift, one of my co-workers was in severe distress after multiple unsuccessful IV attempts on a dehydrated patient. Dylan stepped in - not only to take over, but to teach. He explained vein selection techniques, demonstrated with patience, and encouraged her to try again. When she succeeded, he celebrated her win like it was his own. This moment transformed her self-doubt into confidence - a true example of bridging concepts to clinical practice and promoting critical thinking and judgement.

He constantly collaborates with nurses, techs, educators, and leadership - role modeling change agent attributes by initiating small, impactful workflow improvements. He was able to help me organize an in-progress setup of a new graduate skills refresher binder by printing out educational handouts and policies/procedures to remind them of the steps on how to do a certain skill.

As an expert resource, he demonstrates patient-centered care that is safe, efficient, and equitable - always reminding staff that excellence is achieved through teamwork, not perfection. Beyond his daily teaching, he creates and sustains a mentoring culture, inspiring many of us to become preceptors ourselves. His humility, patience, and passion have left a permanent mark on our unit and on every nurse who is fortunate enough to learn from him. He exemplifies what it is like to be a clinical nurse educator within HCA, and we are all blessed to have him work for MountainView Hospital in Las Vegas, NV!
