In every bandage she applies, every medication she administers, every crisis she calmly navigates, she brings professionalism, empathy, and grace.
A DAISY in Our Halls: Nurse Barrientes' Story
At Sgt. Chacon Middle School, the heartbeat of compassion and care, quietly pulses from a small room just off the main hallway—our nurse’s office. And at the center of it all is Nurse Barrientes, whose dedication to the well-being of our students and staff goes far beyond any job description.
From the moment the school doors open, Nurse Barrientes is ready—first aid kit stocked, medications organized, glucose monitor in hand. Her day begins before most of us have finished our coffee. Whether it’s a scraped knee from a PE class, a student feeling faint, or a diabetic child needing careful monitoring, Nurse Barrientes handles every situation with precision and heart.
She doesn’t wait for students to come to her. You’ll find her across campus—cafeteria, gym, classrooms—carrying her portable monitor, keeping a watchful eye on diabetic students, making sure they’re safe, stable, and supported throughout the day. Her rounds are not just medical—they’re moments of connection. A reassuring smile. A calm voice. A warm reminder that someone is always looking out for them.
And her care doesn’t stop with the students. When a teacher is ill, when a staff member needs medical advice, or even when I need a moment to catch my breath, Nurse Barrientes is there, ready, prepared, and always willing to go the extra mile.
In every bandage she applies, every medication she administers, every crisis she calmly navigates, she brings professionalism, empathy, and grace. She is the quiet strength behind our school’s health and safety, and the impact of her work echoes in every hallway and classroom.
I proudly nominate Nurse Barrientes for the DAISY Award for these reasons and more. Her compassion is constant, her dedication is unwavering, and her presence is a true blessing to our school community.
We are grateful. We are better because of her.
