He acknowledged my dad’s questions and patiently and comprehensively responded.
Chris was nominated multiple times for the compassion, kindness, and dedication he brings to every patient interaction. His calm presence, clinical expertise, and genuine care make a lasting impact, not just on those he treats but on the entire care team. Here is one of the particular nominations:
From the moment Chris, our 7:00 AM-7:00 PM RN, introduced himself to my dad, I knew he was a special caregiver. Chris took the time to get to know my dad as a person and a patient. He immediately developed my dad’s trust and confidence by delivering compassionate, expert, and direct instruction and care. He also met my dad where he was. My dad is from South Louisiana and has an unmistakable accent. Chris informed us that some team members at Cullman Regional call him ‘Cajun,’ and his accent does indeed rival that of a South Louisiana native. Chris and my dad exchanged stories about their hobbies, workshops, and love of South Louisiana food. He never left the room without asking if we needed anything else. He acknowledged my dad’s questions and patiently and comprehensively responded. When Chris said, ‘I’ll be back in 30 minutes’, he was at the bedside right on time. Chris even stopped by before starting his shift the next day just to say, “Good Morning” and let us know the status of the roads as we were anticipating discharge. On the days he was not Dad’s nurse, he checked in with us until we were discharged.
***
I was able to observe many of Chris’s interactions with my dad, but I also observed his interactions with other team members, ranging from Patient Care Assistants to other RNs and physicians who clearly use him as a trusted and expert resource. He delivered expert care in a professional and respectful manner.
