Chessa is a nurse who helped me a lot; she volunteered to accompany me to church (mass), and she even put a protective coating on me for my surgery wound even if I removed one earlier for bathing. She helped me a lot and I don't have enough words to express my thanks to her.
*****
Chessa is a true nurse at heart, she always goes above and beyond with the nursing care she provides to all our patients and families. She is the nurse who makes every effort to care for our patients in a holistic and all-inclusive approach, providing care for their mind, body, soul, and spirit. Whether it's taking a patient for an extra walk, sitting with them during difficult times, going to the gift shop for them to get them a special pen or candy bar, or dancing with them, she offers a unique compassion for others while doing the best she can to facilitate the healing and recovery of our patients. She not only attends mass with her patients but takes the time to sit with them afterward to process the experience and what it meant to them. In fact, on a daily basis at the start of every shift, she asks every patient to give her a call whenever they need to have some one-on-one time with her outside of the routine care she is providing.
In addition to all of this, her colleagues speak highly of her and frequently commend her for her work, professionalism and team spirit. In fact, what they value the most is just having her as a part of their team as she is always willing to lend a helping hand and encouragement to the others when times are stressful in the unit. Recognized by the staff of other units where she has worked to assist them with coverage, Chessa was nominated and received the "Rookie of the Year" award during Nurses' Week. We support her for the DAISY Award and we are so honored to share this moment with her.
