She builds trust, seeks excellence and current best practices, fosters growth and professional development, collaborates with all Departments to coordinate education throughout PMC, and promotes a culture of belonging (inclusion) and sustainability.
Chelsea has made a wonderful impact on nurses' abilities to provide great and compassionate care. I could give multiple examples, but I will focus on the nurse residency program. Chelsea has run a nurse cohort for new graduate nurses for multiple years. The content of the residency program focuses on the delivery of evidence-based quality care. The program for the new graduates consists of many attributes that help develop an RN to their greatest professional potential. Some of the interesting components include "if I had a magic wand." This gives new RNs the ability to generate ideas. "What scares you?" Opens the discussions of the experiences the new RN has had on the unit that caused them to be anxious. Communication, Learning Styles, Teaching styles, Dementia Capable Care, Critical thinking development, Meditation, Informatics, are some of the topics in the program. Chelsea coordinates speakers for the topics and helps develop presentations. I have had the ultimate pleasure of seeing the new graduates be the founding fathers of best practice, sharing the best practice methods they have learned during residency with their co-workers. The most recent example of this is as follows: We have been teaching the Bedside Shift Report initiative since 1/5/2025. The new graduates have been such an amazing help in fostering the adaptation of this best practice method.
Chelsea is a natural, informal leader who supports the organizational goals. She incorporates the strategic plan into her education. She builds trust, seeks excellence and current best practices, fosters growth and professional development, collaborates with all Departments to coordinate education throughout PMC, and promotes a culture of belonging (inclusion) and sustainability. I want to focus on Professional development and inclusion to provide some examples: At the beginning of every class, there is a discussion of past experiences on the unit- this communication is without judgment and open. It is nice to have a space to share your feelings and challenges without fear and judgment. The Residency program supports cultivating professional development. The residents all create a poster with evidence-based references about the topic that interests them the most. This poster serves two purposes: one to increase their knowledge, and two to share the knowledge with the cohort. The camaraderie that is built in this group is incredible. The new graduates all support each other. I have seen some amazing posters on pre-eclampsia, heparin drips, acid-base imbalance, etc. It is nice to read the posters and see the professional presentations. This program is only a small slice of Chelsea's contributions to PMC. Chelsea goes to the units in the JIT (Just in time) moments when nurses have questions, she is always willing to help with any questions. As a new employee at PMC, her expertise has been invaluable. She is patient and respectful. Chelsea is appreciated.
