Blair returned the very next day carrying a bag full of clothes and shoes just for them, ensuring the patient had what they needed to leave with dignity.
I am honored to nominate Blair Kail for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion, dedication, and care she provides to her patients. From the moment she enters a room, Blair has an exceptional ability to make her patients feel safe, heard, and truly cared for. Her warm presence and genuine empathy create a comforting environment, even during the most vulnerable moments of their stay.
One moment that stands out vividly is when Blair cared for a homeless patient a few weeks ago. This patient came to our unit not only in need of medical attention but also lacking necessities, including clothes and shoes for their discharge. When it came time to change and bathe the patient, they were hesitant, fearing that the clothes they were wearing- their only set of clothes- would be discarded. Blair took the time to listen, demonstrating patience and understanding. After completing the admission paperwork, she approached me and shared her plan: once her shift ended, she would find clothes and shoes for the patient.
True to her word, Blair returned the very next day carrying a bag full of clothes and shoes just for them, ensuring the patient had what they needed to leave with dignity. This act of kindness went far beyond her nursing duties—it reflected Blair’s genuine compassion and unwavering commitment to treating her patients as whole individuals, not just their medical conditions. Blair consistently goes above and beyond for her patients. Whether it’s buying snacks or drinks from the cafeteria for a patient who hasn’t had visitors or ensuring a patient without belongings has clothing and essentials, Blair’s selflessness is evident in every interaction. Her clinical expertise is remarkable, but it is her authentic kindness and empathy that truly set her apart. She treats every patient with respect and dignity, making incredibly difficult experiences more bearable. I am blessed to call her a coworker, but even more blessed to call her a friend.
