I’ve been in and out of hospitals for most of my life, but Andrew stands out as someone who doesn’t just do his job—he elevates it.
Andrew is, without exaggeration, the most efficient nurse I’ve ever met—but what makes him extraordinary is that he never sacrifices care, compassion, or professionalism along the way. He’s tall, slim, well-groomed, and carries himself with a quiet confidence that immediately puts people at ease.
As a nurse leader, he could easily stay behind the scenes or step back from patient interactions, but Andrew is the kind of leader who leads by example—never distancing himself from the responsibilities he once held. In fact, he embraces them. Despite managing the entire infusion unit and supporting his team, Andrew continues to be deeply present for each and every patient, including me.
One moment I’ll never forget is when I was undergoing monotherapy—those long, draining sessions with medications like Ativan, Benadryl, and Dilaudid. Without me even having to ask, Andrew remembered that I always feel more at ease with a warm blanket. He made sure I had one every single time, like clockwork. It might seem small, but in that setting, it made all the difference. He never treated my comfort as an afterthought.
Another example is when he accesses my port. Most people take their time and talk through each step—but Andrew? He’s the Lightning McQueen of port accesses. Fast. Efficient. But never rough. Never careless. His speed doesn’t come at the cost of technique or professionalism. It’s a reflection of just how experienced and thoughtful he is. He always explains what he’s doing with kindness and confidence, making the process feel smooth and safe—like I’m in the best hands possible. Andrew treats everyone—patients and staff alike—with equal respect. He sets the tone for the entire unit. Watching him work is like watching someone do what they were meant to do. He’s calm under pressure, always attentive, and carries a quiet warmth that makes hard days feel a little lighter. I’ve been in and out of hospitals for most of my life, but Andrew stands out as someone who doesn’t just do his job—he elevates it. He brings humanity, heart, and grace into every interaction. He is a DAISY Nurse, not just for what he does, but for who he is. And for how much better he makes this journey feel for people like me.
