It is very difficult to hear an initial diagnosis of cancer; it is quite inexplicable. It was a day I never knew I would see and one I will never forget. It shook my confidence and made me second-guess decisions initially made, such as not taking early retirement when my husband did. The day my doctor stopped by my office with the news, our Danny Bell Cancer/Ambulatory Infusion Center stepped up to the plate and did not miss a swing.
Amy Latta supported me that day by going to the oncology appointment; her calm "we've got this" was repeated so often until I started counting the times she said it and used each one as a stepping stone of faith. Honestly, the first two treatments were really hard and scary. This entire team was amazing and calmed my fears, and importantly, helped me with the intense pain that I was not expecting.
They were there for me and answered so many questions. My husband initially wanted me to go to Dallas to receive care, but he has since been so thankful for all the care we received right here in our hometown. He brags consistently to our friends that our care was top-notch, professional, and by the book! This team was extraordinarily compassionate and skilled, and their teamwork was unparalleled.
They made us feel like family, not just patients. They explained the side effects with patience, even when I asked the same question over and over. But, I was most impressed that they just didn't treat my cancer, they cared for my husband and me. We are privileged to be able to recognize this extraordinary team and realize that they are our biggest blessing of 2025.
