Amanda is such an asset to Norton Healthcare and leads this department by example.
I am one of the ANMs in the Emergency Department who is working with Amanda. I am reaching out to explain how above and beyond Amanda goes for this team. I have never experienced in my 8 years working with Norton Healthcare a manager quite like her. Not only is she there for her entire team professionally, but emotionally as well. There is never a bad time to reach out to her in her eyes. She is always willing to help, whether it's on the floor with patients, being a therapist, a listening ear, or striving to make our department reach its full potential. We are never alone in whatever situation the ER or life throws at us.
Amanda has grown this department and each person in it, myself included. I would like to think that I am doing well in my new-ish position, and I owe most of it to her. She has opened my eyes to endless possibilities and shown me how to lead a department and staff in ways that I never knew I was capable of. I am a better leader, person, and nurse because of her and this team.
I am writing this email to let whoever should hear this know that the AUD ED staff want to make sure that she gets recognition. I want to explain what happens behind the doors that the administration does not see.
She is such an asset to Norton Healthcare and leads this department by example. I could not think of a better person to work directly under and have representing me and our staff. Amanda does not know that I am sending this, nor does she expect recognition. She does all of these things without being asked and does it out of the kindness of her heart and intention to better this department. She does not even realize the impact that she has on all of us. I would like to point out a couple of examples where she has gone above and beyond for us:
An adolescent GSW came in on the night shift. She was asleep and came in despite it being early morning hours, and helped with support for the team (emotionally and physically).
Multiple days in a row when we were holding 30+ patients, she cleared her schedule for the day to help with the flow of hold patients and help relieve stress on the ANM on facilitating hold rooms/ nurses
Multiple days of coming in before I (7a-7p) arrive and staying until well after I have left.
Picked up to be a charge nurse on the night shift when we did not have staff for it.
Came in on Monday morning and worked until after 7 pm, left, and came back Tuesday-Friday night.
Trained myself for my ANM position while juggling the management role of the department.
Came in again on night shift to train another new night shift, WOW ANM, and coming in during the day the rest of the week.
Made the staff a "relaxation nook" in the staff break room to help unwind. She did this all on her own.
Puts an exceptional amount of effort and time into gifts and recognition for EMS week, PA week, NP week, RN and ER week, and MD week, all on her own.
Came in on a short staffing day and took a team multiple times.
Always attending huddles to support the ER charge nurse, even when we are not holding and have adequate staffing throughout the hospital.
Came in again during another very difficult situation that was very emotionally heavy on all staff. She offered support for everyone during this heartbreaking time and kept her schedule open for staff to be supported.
She holds her ANMs accountable and to a higher standard than I have ever seen in a hospital.
She switched to night shift for 3 weeks to engage with the night shift staff and show support.
I hope that you all see how lucky you are to have a manager representing Norton Healthcare.
