A rapid response was called, and Amanda was able to provide information and insight to the care team as well as the patient's family member in a calm and organized manner.
I have been working with Amanda for around a year; however, one instance characterized her values of compassion and her integrity when caring for patients. When working with Amanda in this instance, one of our patients began to decline in condition. Amanda was attentive to the patient and family member, treating the small changes that were beginning to occur with caution and care. She checked on them often, carefully assessing and intervening in a prompt manner. A rapid response was called, and Amanda was able to provide information and insight to the care team as well as the patient's family member in a calm and organized manner. Despite the high stress of the situation, Amanda upheld the dignity of the patient and family member. She sacrificed her time to ensure their safety and comfort, offering her presence and support despite the plethora of tasks ahead. Above all else, Amanda treats her patients with kindness and humanity. She is an excellent example of compassion and integrity, even in the most difficult circumstances. As a student, I have learned so much from her. She is a wonderful teacher, and I hope to follow her example as I continue my own journey to become an oncology nurse.

Amanda exemplified Integrity and compassion today throughout the morning. This morning, we had a patient who became nonresponsive and fragile. In report, we were told he became very tired due to the side effects from his transplant. Amanda knew immediately that something was not right with our patient. She took his vitals and noticed his heart rate and blood pressure were not in the normal range. Amanda called the R.T. for a breathing treatment, but it did not seem to help. She then called the rapid response R.N. It was evident our patient needed assistance to breathe, and to help with his blood pressure, she reached out to the team. As the Doctor was assessing our patient, Amanda mentioned that our patient's blood pressure was low, he put in an order for blood pressure medication. Amanda gave our patient the medication for his blood pressure and was adamant that he needed help breathing. She advocated for our patient for more than 3 hours.
Amanda was so caring. She was talking to our patient to let him know she was doing everything she could to help him feel comfortable. I loved the fact that she was so compassionate towards our patient and was touching his arms so he could feel someone who cares. Amanda was not satisfied with just breathing treatments and the blood pressure meds; she knew from experience that there was a 100% chance of being intubated. Being consistent, Amanda called the team. Her care and dedication were phenomenal. She mentioned to them that he needed help breathing and that the meds did not work. N.P. came into the room and called the I.C.U. nurse to let them know our patient was going downstairs. Amanda saved our patient's life, his organs were going to get the help they needed to stay alive, and our patient was getting the elite care from the I.C.U. team and to have a second chance in life. Amanda must be one of the best nurses we have here in this organization. Her love for patients, her conversation she had with our patient to remind him there is hope, is the integrity she continues to exemplify every shift she works. Amanda is an amazing woman who happens to be an extraordinary R.N. who continues to share her love with our staff and patients. I love working with such a kind, sweet, and caring R.N. like Amanda.
