Alivia is one of the most supportive and kindhearted managers. She always ensures everyone's voices are heard and lends a shoulder to cry on.
Alivia is a great role model as a leader. Although she and I are both newer Leaders. She is a very trustworthy and reliable source of guidance. She provides constant information and confidence for her team. She has worked with me on numerous projects since we opened SMH Venice. She is always looking for best practices to empower her team and support all hospital units. She is approachable, reliable, and consistent in her leadership practices and behaviors.

Alivia is approachable to all her staff and provides her team with professional growth opportunities and elevation. One example is that Alivia is currently helping to develop a CNA internship process for non-clinical new hires. Alivia also helps create processes and policies to improve patient care and efficiency for her team and hospital. In her time here, Alivia has helped create our SMHV Division manuals and has piloted the Johns Hopkins mobility program.

She has also helped in reviewing the Suicide Policy. She made suggestions on the documentation and workflow requirements, including a bedside staff resource to help ensure compliance with the documentation. These processes have not only improved patient care but also patient safety. Alivia’s unit has gone 5 months without any patient falls. She is constantly going above and beyond to support her unit. She will stop into a patient’s room if the call light is on while she is rounding on the floor. She also assists in any Rapid Responses or Code Blues that are called on her floor. She embodies the spirit of inquiry and collaboration at SMH!

Alivia is a very nice, caring, and understanding leader. Our unit was originally a medical short-stay unit, and when the new tower opened. We moved upstairs and became the neuro med surg unit, which was a huge change and transition for us all. Her leadership made it smooth and easier to do. She made sure we had the resources and education to transition smoothly. Our unit can be challenging at times, and as our leader, she continues to ensure we have what we need to do our jobs. She is also very caring and takes the time to get to know each of us personally. She has reached out to many staff members during times of crisis. She really cares about her staff!

Alivia is an amazing leader to our team, which has, in turn, helped with the retention of our great team members as well. She never hesitates to jump in and help when asked and frequently does so without being asked. She anticipates the needs of our team and our patients and proactively responds accordingly. Alivia has a genuine caring attitude, and I truly feel that she has our best interests at heart as a team and individually. She encourages our career growth and education and fosters an environment that allows for a true work-life balance.

You can approach her with any issue, big or small, professional or personal, and she will assist to the best of her ability or go out of her way to find the resources you really need. She makes sure that you feel supported at all times in every possible way. She is communicative, proactive, knowledgeable, and a better manager than I expected was possible. She is personally one of the top reasons I remain a part of this team. I refuse to give her up and take a gamble on working for a different manager since I know that no one can truly compare to her!

She makes sure she has a good personal and professional relationship with all her staff members. She talks to us in a diplomatic way and is never punitive. She encourages us to grow professionally and follows up with our post-graduate course or goals whenever she gets a chance.

Alivia is one of the most supportive and kindhearted managers. She always ensures everyone's voices are heard and lends a shoulder to cry on. She goes above and beyond to support her staff and provide all the materials we need to do our job successfully, including candy! She is quick to jump hands-on and help on the unit as well as advocate for patients and her staff. I have shared my own medical issues, and she has worked with me thoroughly to ensure I can take care of myself first. Her kindness truly shines in everything she does. I am so grateful to have her as my boss.

Alivia Duncan has been, by far, the most caring and compassionate nurse leader I have ever worked with. Alivia cares about each and every employee first and foremost and is always willing to listen to each employee's concerns. Not only does she listen, but she follows through and closes the loop regarding your concerns, even if it is not the outcome we wanted. She will always advocate for the team.

Second, and this is what I think puts her above other supervisors. She is always willing to get her hands dirty and step in and help when our unit is in distress. She doesn't let us sink and does her best to get us the support we need in a system that is broken and often finds us overwhelmed and inundated with tasks. She takes in difficult patients with us and talks 1:1 with family members and patients. I feel blessed to have such care and support from her as an employee, and I know she puts the needs of the patients first!
