Although this was outside his specialty, he ensured the patient received appropriate follow-up, coordinating with colleagues across specialties to fill any care gaps.
Dr. Adam Kinsaul has demonstrated a clear commitment to improving access and quality of care for Spanish-speaking Hispanic patients within his Orthopedic specialty practice. Recognizing that language was a barrier for many patients, Dr. Kinsaul decided to improve his Spanish to better communicate with the population he serves. This wasn’t just a professional decision; it was a personal effort to reduce misunderstandings, build trust, and make care more accessible.

He would provide his personal WhatsApp contact to allow for consistent communication with patients in a way they felt comfortable utilizing, offering a more familiar and approachable form of communication rather than an EMR portal that often lacked Spanish-speaking inclusiveness. Though his role is in Orthopedic care, Dr. Kinsaul does not limit his patient assessment to musculoskeletal complaints. One significant example was a Spanish-speaking patient who came in for a routine Orthopedic concern. Through careful evaluation and listening, Dr. Kinsaul identified signs of testicular cancer. Although this was outside his specialty, he ensured the patient received appropriate follow-up, coordinating with colleagues across specialties to fill any care gaps. His attention to detail and concern for the whole patient led to a timely diagnosis that might have otherwise been missed.

Dr. Kinsaul actively works to close care gaps and improve comfort and communication with underserved Spanish-speaking patients. His efforts promote health equity in meaningful ways, and his approach reflects nursing’s role in addressing social determinants of health at the bedside.
