Ashley stood out as having performed exceptionally well not only at the patient's most critical moments but throughout the time she cared for Ms B in IR.
Ashley, in the MICU on Sunday night, helped us with a very sick patient, Ms B. The patient had a massive hemorrhage into the left chest following a thoracentesis. Ashley met the patient and us in the IR suite, which, of course, is not the preferred way to assume care of a patient. The patient became critically ill, requiring intubation, pressors, a central line, an art line, and nearly code. While there were many teams involved - IR, Anesthesia, MET, IR nurse, IR technologists, RT, Critical care float among others; Ashley stood out as having performed exceptionally well not only at the patient's most critical moments but throughout the time she cared for Ms B in IR.

I would be remiss if I did not make sure you know how much we appreciate Ashley's work with us this evening. I do not know what the patient's outcome will be, but I do know she is better off having had Ashley as her nurse today.

Whatever you can do to support and encourage Ashley and nurses like her to succeed and thrive will inevitably be good for you, the MICU, UVA, and, of course, patients.

I wanted to pass on my positive feedback because I would want to know if someone on my team had done such an excellent job.

All of the nurses we've had the pleasure of meeting have been wonderful. But one does stand out to us both. Not only has Ashley been proactive and personable in her communication to my husband and I while our son is in the ICU, she has been sensitive to his needs, other than medical. She has taken the time to wash his (very long) hair twice and keep it brushed and kempt ~ something that I know our son would appreciate while sedated and on a ventilator. You can tell she really takes her role seriously and knows she has the influence to make a positive difference in a not-so-great situation.

She's taken the time to get to know us on a personal level, and we've learned a bit about her and her family as well.

Our son has had the utmost care while at UVA ICU with each nurse and team we've encountered, but I have to say, every time we see Ashley as his nurse, we are delighted and confident he's in great hands.
