She supported us in making decisions, always prioritizing not only his physical well-being, but also his emotional and mental health.
I would like to nominate Lisa for the extraordinary care she provided to my father during his recent hospitalization. My dad was admitted with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, Merkel cell carcinoma. Because of how uncommon and fast-moving this disease is, it brought a great deal of fear and uncertainty not just for our family, but even within the medical environment where information can be limited and outcomes unpredictable. Through it all, Lisa never wavered. She consistently provided care that was not only clinically excellent, but deeply personal, compassionate, and human. She took the time to truly get to know my dad not just as a patient, but as a person. She celebrated the positives in his life, engaged him in meaningful conversation, and reminded all of us that he was more than a diagnosis. She remained incredibly attentive to the complex medical details and data surrounding his condition, and she never let those details overshadow his humanity.

In a world where healthcare can sometimes feel driven by numbers, Lisa balanced both with grace, ensuring his treatment was precise while his spirit was cared for, too. Due to the severity and complexity of his case, many specialists were involved, and at times the path forward, especially toward discharge, felt overwhelming and nearly impossible to navigate. Lisa became our guide. With kindness, patience, and even moments of laughter, she helped break down complicated information into manageable pieces. She supported us in making decisions, always prioritizing not only his physical well-being, but also his emotional and mental health. Nurses are the heart of the healthcare system. They are a constant presence in moments of fear, translators of complex medical information, and steady hands that bring skill and compassion to every interaction.

While physicians diagnose and direct care, nurses ensure that care is truly felt, understood, and carried out with humanity. Lisa exemplifies this at the highest level. She did not just care for my father; she cared about him, and in doing so, she elevated his entire experience and ours as a family. Their presence brought calm to chaos, clarity to confusion, and comfort during one of the most difficult times in our lives. In an age where healthcare is increasingly shaped by technology and efficiency, the personal, compassionate care that Lisa provided stands out as truly exceptional. They embody everything the DAISY Award represents. Our family will never forget the impact she had not just on my father’s care, but on all of us.
