he kept vigilance over me until my required time had elapsed and provided me with a comfortable and safe environment that allowed me to keep my dignity and a little self-respect.
My visit to the Uniontown Hospital, WVU Medicine, was to correct multiple blockages I had within my heart. Unfortunately, I had complications that extended the correction process from one procedure to two, during which I received three stints. The whole process lasted over four hours.
Emily immediately took charge of my care upon my arrival to the ICU. She was also the main point of contact for my family, who were naturally concerned after watching me be rushed back in for a second procedure due to heart attack-like symptoms caused by a secondary blockage.
Emily made sure to listen patiently to all of my familys concerns and explain my condition and recovery plan as many times as needed as each person asked multiple (and at times) repetitive questions. With a calm and confident demeanor, she eased all our concerns while providing me with exceptional care and attention.
All while attending to other patients, some who were not as fortunate as I was. She never let the stress of other patients or outside issues interfere with the exceptional care she provided with seeming ease. I was always made to feel as if I was the most important person in the hospital.
I ended up having to spend a couple nights in the hospital and normally that would not be pleasant but with Emilys care, I almost forgot I was a patient as I felt more like a guest.
Now, I wish I could say I was the perfect patient, but unfortunately that was not the case, and I would be remiss if I did not mention how I originally arrived at the ICU. When I arrived at the ICU, I was not only in discomfort from the battered body due to the procedure, but I was also feeling a lot of pain that was sadly caused by an immediate need to release my bowels.
Yes after a long morning and a four hour procedure, I was in immediate need to relieve myself, which I was not permitted to do due to two very important reasons: 1) I was required to lay flat for two hours after the procedure(s) to ensure success and 2) I suffer a mental block that precludes me from being able to relieve myself at all in front of others (Timid Tinkler Syndrome). The bedpan would not work!
Bless Emily for patiently offering ideas, and even more so for understanding and accepting my self-imposed condition. She kept vigilance over me until my required time had elapsed and provided me with a comfortable and safe environment that allowed me to keep my dignity and a little self-respect. I will be forever grateful to her for that!
