We will never forget her and pray that others are blessed and fortunate to benefit from this lovely, humorous, caring, attentive, reassuring, dedicated, compassionate nurse.
My husband and I were on a plane at Lakeland Airport getting ready to depart for New Haven, CT. As the plane was ready to proceed to the runway, he clenched his chest several times in pain. I pushed the emergency button, and an immediate emergency procedure went into effect. 911 was called, and within minutes we were being transported to LRH with much fear, apprehension, and worry.
The EMTs were very attentive, kind, and reassuring. When we arrived at the ER, our nurse was always smiling and even in her busy moments would stick her head in to check on us both.
At one point, she was checking his vitals and overheard me talking to family, explaining that our luggage remained on the plane and we had nothing with us. As time progressed, the seriousness of his condition was explained, he was admitted, and my uneasiness increased, but Stacy and a co-worker reassured me that the hospital would let me stay with him and all would be taken care of.
When we arrived in his room, a recliner and linens awaited me, along with a bag of personal items. Before Stacy left her shift, she spent a few minutes explaining what was going on and what was possibly going to occur. She told me she was leaving for the weekend and offered me her phone number in the event I needed to talk to someone. She also asked that I update her.
Later, I sent her a text with an update and again thanked her. She sent an encouraging reply, reminding us she was not far away. I cannot put into words how much her kindness and unexpected caring got me through the first difficult hours.
Fast forward 48 hours, and we are still in our “suite”; he is receiving excellent medical care, learning more about his recovery and pulmonary embolism. A quiet moment in early afternoon, he is resting, and I was dealing with discharge issues and transportation home; there was a soft tap on the door, and in came Stacy with smiles, hugs, and encouragement. Her parting words were that she would want someone to do this for her parents if needed.
More than her excellent medical attention and caring, it was her personal attention that I could not believe.
