As a parent of a nonverbal child, I can say without hesitation that this is exactly the kind of care I would hope for my own daughter.
As the clinical pharmacist on the unit, I had the privilege of witnessing Sophie care for a nonverbal patient on our team. She showed extraordinary compassion, patience, and kindness, thoughtfully and systematically assessing multiple potential sources of discomfort until she was able to identify the cause.
In my experience, many providers do not take the time to explore that thoroughly. She waited for clear yes/no responses and ensured he truly felt heard and understood. As a parent of a nonverbal child, I can say without hesitation that this is exactly the kind of care I would hope for my own daughter.
Sophie's gentle persistence and advocacy made a meaningful difference.
