She takes time to sit down to connect with each and every patient, as well as every staff member and their loved ones, each and every day.
Corrie leads by example. As a manager, Corrie goes out of her way to provide support to her staff and care to her patients. She may be a manager by title, perhaps a great one, but she always makes herself available as if she were a bedside nurse to provide care and comfort to the patients on 42. She is an example of how every manager should carry themselves.

Whether it is a high-intensity day or a less strenuous shift, she maintains an upbeat demeanor and is a fun person to be around and to work with. She takes time to sit down to connect with each and every patient, as well as every staff member and their loved ones, each and every day.

Today she calmed a fearful, Spanish-speaking patient who was planning to leave against medical advice. She did this after many staff members, including nurses and physicians, had made multiple unsuccessful attempts. In this scenario, it was probably a benefit that she is bilingual, as many may be unaware she speaks Spanish fluently. She was able to calm this patient's mind, bring him back down to reality, and help him make healthy decisions for himself. I am certain the time she spent with him and the back rub she provided aided in the rapport she was able to build.

Though many may go unnoticed, acts like this are a daily occurrence for Corrie. I am not sure I could think of a better recipient for the DAISY Leader Award. Corrie nurses and manages in a way we all should aspire to.
