Matt came in at a time when our unit was extremely vulnerable, as we were in the midst of recovering from extremely short staffing and morale was very low. It was immediately apparent once he came on as our team leader that he cared about his RNs as people first, and then as employees. Since his hiring at the end of 2024, he has only solidified that confidence in his nurses and has continued to make us feel seen, heard, and taken care of. This, in turn, helps our patients receive better care, which is always the ultimate goal. Not only that, but Matt is always willing to help no matter the situation. On days where we are short-staffed, he’ll glove up and help with direct patient care, even though it's not part of his job description. He asks and listens to our input; he always does what he says he’ll do, and he handles issues on the unit with ease. Our unit feels so well cared for under Matt’s leadership, and I can't think of any manager I've ever had that's more deserving of this Award.
