Through calm, professional communication and effective de-escalation techniques, she was able to defuse the situation without further incident and assist in providing medical care.
I witnessed an extraordinary act of professionalism and compassion from the medical staff during a critical emergency.
A female patient suffered a medical emergency inside a transport van located just outside the entrance to the ER lobby. Initially, we were informed that the patient had passed out. However, it was quickly determined that she was unconscious, unresponsive, and without a pulse.
I observed one of the clinical coordinators, Kaitlynne Friesz, immediately spring into action without hesitation, climbing into the back seat of the van and initiating life-saving CPR. Despite the confined space and urgency of the situation, Kaitlynne performed chest compressions with skill and focus. As additional medical personnel arrived, the patient was carefully transferred onto a stretcher, during which the nurse never stopped administering CPR. The patient was rushed into a trauma room, where the medical team continued their resuscitative efforts. Sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, the patient was pronounced deceased.
Although the outcome was tragic, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and commend the actions of everyone involved, especially Kaitlynne, who led the initial response. What I witnessed was nothing short of heroic. While this may be considered part of their job, seeing it up close reinforced how vital and selfless these professionals truly are.
Furthermore, I also formally commend the actions of Kaitlynne for her exemplary conduct during another matter after the incident mentioned above. I was stationed in the Emergency Room lobby when a nurse in the PIVOT area called a "Code Orange" over the radio, indicating a potentially escalating situation. I immediately responded, along with other medical staff, to assess the situation.
Upon arrival, I observed a patient displaying verbally aggressive behavior toward the nurse who had initiated the alert. While this was not a criminal matter requiring police intervention, it was a high-tension moment that could have escalated further without proper handling.
At this critical juncture, I observed Kaitlynne intervene and engage the patient as he advised that he was suffering from a heart attack. Through calm, professional communication and effective de-escalation techniques, she was able to defuse the situation without further incident and assist in providing medical care.
Kaitlynne's presence, demeanor, and skillful handling of the encounter were commendable. Kaitlynne's actions not only ensured the safety of staff and patients but also exemplified the highest standards of professionalism and care.
Her conduct reflects great credit upon herself, her department, and the hospital as a whole.
