I will remember Noelle for the extra steps she took to ensure I got the care I needed, but also for the kindness and compassion that were second nature to her.
After surgery, I was initially in the ICU, then transferred to OHPC. I had complications from the surgery, and my hospital stay was longer than I anticipated. All of the staff on the unit were kind and caring, but one nurse stands out to me as the exceptional person who is not only a wonderful nurse, but also truly loves her job and the unit she works on.
This was evident to me in the kindness and compassion demonstrated every day in her practice. Also evident was the nursing knowledge and skills she used to ensure I received the care needed to enhance my recovery.
Because of the unexpected complications, my family was concerned about the effect this would have on me. Noelle took the time to make sure everyone understood what was happening and provided thorough explanations. When she was providing my care, we all felt we were in the best hands.
I was in a lot of pain, but I don't remember having to wait long anytime I asked for pain medication. She encouraged me to walk to help decrease pain and improve my well-being. The hospital setting interrupts sleep frequently, which in turn can impact the healing process. My family told me Noelle would give and receive hand-off outside the room to prevent disturbing my sleep, which was greatly appreciated.
I observed her collaborating with other members of the healthcare team in a professional manner, whether it was a nursing assistant, nurse extern, RN, or provider. She has a wonderful rapport with the staff and also provides explanations to them if they have a question.
