My fiancé, C, was brought to the CCU Unit. I will say, as a general statement, the nurses on the floor were amazing. I will also absolutely praise J. Without those nurses, I would have been lost and more damaged after this experience. We were lucky to have Jeff Sander as C's nurse for many shifts.

Jeff is amazing and a shining example of what all nurses should be. He was so on top of the care C needed, always looked for ways to help him, make him comfortable, and to genuinely care about him as a person. Even though C was never able to speak to him or anyone for 4 weeks. Jeff truly seemed to understand him. At the same time, Jeff showed me, family, and friends true caring and empathy. I truly do not know if I would have made it through the experience without him.

I ended up having to make many hard decisions concerning my fiancé, including removing him from life support. Jeff stayed with me in the room while I spoke to the doctors to provide me with support. Jeff also sat in that room with me multiple times when all I could do was cry my eyes out. I truly believe he cared. A few times during the last week we were there, Jeff had other off-the-floor duties but still came to the room to see how both C and I were doing.

Unfortunately, C passed away, and I am truly heartbroken. Even dealing with this loss, I knew I needed and wanted to recognize Jeff. He is the true meaning of what a nurse should be. He is truly amazing and inspirational.
