I am writing to express heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding care provided by Youseline (Faye) Luma, one of our dedicated night nurse residents on 3NT. Her commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care has made a remarkable impact on one of our patients and truly exemplifies the values we strive to uphold.

During his stay, the patient repeatedly shared how Faye’s kindness, attentiveness, and reassuring presence not only brought him comfort but also encouraged him to remain in the hospital to complete his treatment.

His daughter, who is a nurse, stated that her father was very “difficult” to deal with, disliked the hospital environment, and drilled Faye while completing the admission documentation. She said Faye was very professional and was not intimidated by his behavior and questions.

The patient mentioned being able to recognize her by her gentle, familiar voice each time she was on shift – a testament to the genuine connection she fostered. Remarkably, Faye visited this patient during every shift she worked, demonstrating extraordinary dedication and consistency in her care.

Her compassionate approach left such a lasting impression that the patient has since submitted multiple DAISY Award nominations for her and the team. Even after discharge, he continues to call the unit regularly to provide updates on his health and to express gratitude for the care he received.

He also stated that he is continually recommending BHMC to his friends, family and acquaintances in St. Thomas where he resides.

This level of commitment and compassion highlights the profound difference that exceptional nursing care can make in the healing experience. Faye’s professionalism, empathy, and continuity of care reflect the highest standards of our nursing practice, and her actions serve as an inspiration for all of us.
