His willingness to do whatever was needed showed a true commitment to hands-on, patient-centered care.
Edgar was assigned to care for my father during his recent hospitalization for double pneumonia, and his exceptional care, compassion, and dedication truly made a difficult time much more bearable for both my dad and our entire family.
From the moment the RN began caring for my dad, his attentiveness and promptness stood out. He responded quickly to every call light and need, no matter how small. What impressed me most was that no task was ever beneath him. He willingly performed duties that many nurses delegate to nursing assistants. Things like helping with personal care, adjusting pillows, fetching coffee, or simply making sure my dad was comfortable. His willingness to do whatever was needed showed a true commitment to hands-on, patient-centered care.
When my dad was hesitant about taking a particular medication, this RN took the time to sit with him and explain in clear, understandable terms exactly why the medication was ordered specifically for his condition. He never rushed through the explanation and made sure my dad felt heard and respected in his concerns.
Every single time this nurse administered medications, he carefully reviewed with my dad what each pill was and its purpose. While this is something all nurses are taught, we all know how busy hospital shifts can be, and these important little moments of communication are often the first to slip. He made them a priority every time, which built tremendous trust with my dad.
Beyond his clinical excellence, this RN has a wonderful personality that brightened the entire room. He kept my dad in good spirits by cracking gentle jokes, sharing light-hearted conversation, and bringing smiles during some very tough days.
He extended that same warmth and humor to our family, always making sure we were included in what was happening (especially with me, his daughter who lived out of state), answering every question thoroughly, and keeping us updated and in the loop. His kindness and approachability turned what could have been a frightening experience into one where we felt genuinely cared for as a family.
Edgar embodies everything the DAISY Award represents: skillful nursing combined with heartfelt compassion, respect, and joy in caring for others. My dad recovered well, and we will always remember his extraordinary care as a major part of that healing journey.
He is truly an outstanding nurse and a credit to your hospital.
