A Story of Compassion and Care.

Our family recently had an experience at the hospital that could have easily become very stressful and confusing. Instead, because of two wonderful staff members, it turned into a moment that reminded us how much kindness and dedication from hospital staff really matter.

My father was scheduled for a cranial burr hole procedure that required admission through the ICU. The day before the procedure, he called the hospital to confirm what time he needed to arrive and where he should go. To his surprise, no one could find him in the system. As you can imagine, this was unsettling given the seriousness of the procedure.

After several transfers, he was connected to a scheduling nurse named Jill Brewer. Jill was patient, calm, and genuinely concerned about helping him figure out what was going on. She checked the system several times and even reached out to other departments to see if anyone could locate the procedure.

When nothing came up, she did not just pass him along to someone else. She gave my father her name and direct number and told him she would keep looking into it.

About 30 minutes later, she called him back to give him an update. She still had not found a record of the procedure, but she had already contacted the doctor's office and was continuing to work on it. That follow-up meant a lot to my father, who was understandably anxious about everything.

The next day we arrived at reception around noon following the directions of the doctor’s office, who did get back to us. Unfortunately, the registration nurse also could not find my father in the schedule.

About fifteen minutes later, we met Jill in person. She immediately apologized for the continued confusion and introduced us to her supervisor, Matt Ingle.

Matt stepped in right away to help solve the problem. He was able to find an open room in the ICU so that my father could proceed with the care he needed. Jill and Matt personally walked us to the ICU and helped us get settled into the room.

In what could have easily been a frustrating situation, both Jill and Matt showed patience, kindness, and a real commitment to helping us. They did not treat us like just another scheduling problem; they treated us like people who needed help.

At one point, Matt mentioned that sometimes God puts people in the right place at the right time. In our case, that certainly felt true. We were very grateful that Jill and Matt were there when we needed them.

Our family truly appreciates the care, effort, and compassion they showed. Their actions made a stressful situation much easier, and they are a wonderful reflection of the mission and spirit of your hospital.

Please pass along our sincere thanks!
