Ashley fosters a culture of collaboration and respect through her open-door approach, encouraging staff to share concerns, ideas, and opportunities for improvement.
I am honored to nominate Ashley, Nurse Manager of Med-Surg B, for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.

Ashley demonstrates exceptional nurse leadership characterized by compassion, respect, adaptability, and a deep commitment to both staff and patient care. Since the inception of Hampden Medical Center, her influence has been instrumental in the growth and success of our units through periods of expansion, transition, and change.

Ashley serves as the Nurse Manager of Med-Surg B and also served as the Nurse Manager of Med-Surg A when the unit initially opened with only 10 beds. As patient census increased, the unit expanded significantly, along with the complexity of staffing, equipment, and resource management. Throughout this growth, Ashley consistently ensured that safe, high-quality patient care remained the priority. She demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, quickly addressing challenges and implementing effective solutions to support both staff and operations.
As the unit expanded and fully developed, Ashley played a vital role in guiding this transition. She continued to manage Med-Surg A until new leadership took over, ensuring stability, consistency, and continuity of operations throughout the change. She brought extensive knowledge and experience that helped set the unit up for success during opening and early development. She also provided valuable mentorship to both the nurse manager and staff who transitioned from Holy Spirit Hospital, supporting them as they adapted to new systems, workflows, and expectations.

During a subsequent leadership change, Ashley once again stepped in to mentor the incoming nurse manager, providing stability, guidance, and continuity during a critical transition. She has also mentored our assistant nurse manager, thoroughly teaching and supporting her in developing the confidence and skills needed to succeed in her role, supporting our unit.

Ashley fosters a culture of collaboration and respect through her open-door approach, encouraging staff to share concerns, ideas, and opportunities for improvement. She consistently treats everyone with mutual respect and creates an environment where staff feel heard, valued, and supported.

She is deeply committed to professional development, to encouraging participation in shared governance, and to advancing along the clinical ladder. She empowers staff to trial new ideas that improve patient outcomes and promotes inclusive problem-solving that strengthens engagement and accountability.
Ashley leads by example, cultivating a culture where collaboration, innovation, and compassionate care thrive. I strongly recommend her for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
