We have lots of experience, unfortunately, in the hospital both as an employee and as a patient and family member. That level of vulnerability is unprecedented, and, in my situation, I had just faced both lifesaving and life-changing surgery with only fear as my possible emotion.
Chuy took the time, even in staffing, while having charge nurse responsibilities with three to four other patients, to make me feel as though I was the only one. He was attentive and reassuring, which I expect all nurses are; however, he comforted me, let me know what was going on, and what to expect.
He came to me immediately with information as it became available, which really settled me down. He was charismatic and compassionate in a time when I needed it most. He took time to get to know me and truly listened to me, to get to know me as a human being.
His positivity lifted my spirit and really made this the best possible experience that I did not expect, nor will I ever forget. Chuy, thank you for treating me like a human being and truly looking out for me.

I am a Registered Nurse in the recovery room at Carson Tahoe. I have worked with Chuy on a professional level and gotten to know him at work through patient handoffs and giving report. A patient was diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer in May and had a total gastrectomy two months later, after going through four rounds of FLOT chemotherapy.
This patient was in the hospital for three days and discharged on a Saturday morning. During his hospital stay, he told me that he felt well cared for, that Chuy was kind, compassionate, attentive, and informative. I had the opportunity to observe him during the time I was there, and Chuy is nothing short of amazing. You can really tell he loves his job.
While I am doing the " thing I am allowed to do" for the patient myself, like ambulating with him in the hallways, I observed that Chuy was guiding and teaching the New grad nurses as to why to do things a certain way and the rationale behind it. Knowing that Chuy was caring for him gave me peace of mind and allowed me to go home so I could rest.
For this reason, I am incredibly grateful for the care this patient received. I am blessed beyond measure to have such amazing work colleagues and proud to be a Carson Tahoe Nurse.
