She disarmed what was a very upsetting situation and turned it into a successful final collection. Her dedication and compassion made this process feel human instead of clinical.
I would like to recognize Courtney, as she was an excellent comfort to me during my stem cell collection days.

I am a hospice nurse by trade and have been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, so she talked to me as a patient, but also as a nurse who understands the medical field. I was extremely nervous, and she talked me off the ledge many times. Just her honesty and keeping it real made these four days go by much quicker and more painlessly.

She was very caring and didn’t care how stupid the question was. She helped me through it. She was very accommodating with whatever my family member or I needed. She was always there to lend a hand, bring a cup of ice, or do whatever was needed.

I appreciated her being my nurse all week for the continuity of care, as that is very important for patients, especially going through something like this. She was always pleasant, happy, smiling, and never seemed too bothered. You can tell she thoroughly enjoys her job by the way she takes care of patients and by her overall attitude.

I was being treated by the 3rd Floor Ravdin Apheresis Team for a stem cell collection. Each day, Courtney gave outstanding treatment and was very helpful and informative. All of the nurses were extremely helpful and pleasant.

On our final day, I woke up around 5:00 a.m. covered in blood. Blood was streaming out from around the catheter. My pajamas were soaked in blood, causing me to be very upset.

I called the numbers given for after-hours assistance and was instructed to try the Emergency Room or the Apheresis Team. Driving from Delaware to HUP, my gauze compresses were soaked through with blood several times.

I arrived at the 3rd floor 45 minutes prior to opening time. Courtney happened to be getting off the elevator. Even though her shift had not started, she let me in and took me to a private room. She helped calm me down, cleaned me up, and examined the source of the bleeding. She was able to stop the bleeding and get me a gown to wear after she cleaned me up.

She disarmed what was a very upsetting situation and turned it into a successful final collection. Her dedication and compassion made this process feel human instead of clinical. I have had many procedures at HUP since being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, all of which were positive experiences, but Courtney went far above what I consider normal care.

Courtney made my husband and me feel at home and comfortable. Sometimes, as professionals doing a job day in and day out, it is easy to forget you are dealing with people who are upset and experiencing a traumatic situation. Courtney is a great example of someone who clearly cares about people.

My family and I will be HUP patients for any medical needs we have in the future.

Courtney was medically knowledgeable and explained things very well. She also provided great care and support, including help with parking and restaurant recommendations, all with a smile and a great attitude!

We are so thankful for her!
