I am honored to recognize Marilyn from 3AB at the University of Toledo Medical Center. My uncle, Gary, was recently hospitalized with what was ultimately diagnosed as multiple small strokes and intermittent focal seizures.

During a very frightening and uncertain time for our family, Marilyn exemplified everything nursing is meant to be: knowledgeable, compassionate, skilled, attentive, and deeply human. Marilyn was consistently kind, compassionate, and deeply attentive. She went out of her way to provide extra reassurance and thoughtful care. She treated my uncle as if he were her own family member.

Throughout his stay, Marilyn consistently went above and beyond. She advocated for his needs, maintained excellent communication with me as his emergency contact, answered every question thoroughly and respectfully, and treated my uncle with dignity and warmth. Her clinical competence was evident, but what truly stood out was her compassion. She connected with my uncle personally, encouraged him during cognitive testing and meals, supported him emotionally, and made him feel safe during an incredibly vulnerable time.

Because of nurses like Marilyn, our family felt supported and confident in his care. I genuinely believe that the quality of nursing care he received on 3AB improved not only his hospital experience but also his overall prognosis. She is exemplary in every sense of the word and represents the very best of the nursing profession.
