She quickly stepped in to provide education, symptom management, emotional support, and coordination of community resources.
Jennifer Lingo, RN, provides outpatient in-home palliative care in Dayton, Washington. During an especially busy August, Jen continued to give each patient and family the individualized care, compassion, and support they needed, despite carrying a very heavy patient load.
One of her patients was an older gentleman newly diagnosed with ALS. Jen helped both him and his spouse navigate an overwhelming amount of information about the disease, expected progression, and available care options. She took the time to educate them at a pace they could absorb, ensuring they felt informed and supported every step of the way. She also helped connect the family with resources and distant relatives to build a stronger support system.
Jen was simultaneously caring for another patient with ALS whose needs were becoming increasingly complex. As the patient's dependence on medical equipment grew, Jen continually adapted her care to meet changing physical and emotional needs. She provided a listening ear to the patient's spouse, coordinated discussions about quality of life and end-of-life care, and brought members of the palliative care team together to ensure the family had the guidance they needed.
During that same month, Jen received an urgent new referral for a patient facing a rapidly changing prognosis. She quickly stepped in to provide education, symptom management, emotional support, and coordination of community resources. By bringing together the palliative care team and support services, she helped the patient and family make informed decisions during an incredibly difficult and emotional time.
While managing these complex cases, Jen continued to provide exceptional care to all of her patients. She brings comfort through education, collaboration, support, and sometimes simply a hug when one is needed most.
Jen delivers her expertise and compassionate care directly into patients' homes, often supporting families through some of the most challenging moments of their lives. She walks beside them through difficult diagnoses, declining health, end-of-life decisions, and transitions to hospice care. The emotional demands of this work are immense, yet Jen continues to care for each patient and family with unwavering dedication, humor, kindness, and love.
Jen is a beacon of hope and a trusted source of knowledge, comfort, and compassion for every patient and family she serves.
