I have worked with this nurse a couple of times and did not know her well. I had observed that her level of compassion, respect, empathy, and sympathy is extraordinary. I recall one night when I was called into the room of an anxious patient with complaints of shortness of breath, and Andrea came in with me. I asked the patient if she would like someone to stay with her. She shook her head no, but Andrea insisted on staying with her. She pulled up a chair, sat next to the patient, held her hand, and even put on the prayer service she enjoyed watching on her phone. I have worked in healthcare for over 15 years, and this is one of the best RNs I have ever met. So often in our field, we forget what is important and why we are here, and sometimes we can’t empathize with what our patients are going through. Andrea is a great example of how we should all act and function as healthcare professionals. She also has great communication skills and is willing to brainstorm solutions to help her patients feel more comfortable. She is a fresh breath of air and a great asset to have on Milne 1.
