He strives to be the best nurse he can be every shift.
Clinical Skills:

Jimmy doesn’t shy away from a challenge and has demonstrated a willingness to learn and an ability to excel at the clinical skills required of him. He has a way of making the patient feel calm and comfortable.

Once, I was assisting him with his first NG tube insertion, and I was impressed with his ability to reassure the patient and confidently do the skill for the first time. Jimmy gives excellent care. He is always patient-centered when performing wound care or even something as mundane as IV placements.

Jimmy has demonstrated an ability to pay close attention to his patient’s condition. I’ve seen him quickly identify minute changes in a patient’s condition and alert the doctor and charge nurse appropriately while always managing to make the patient feel at ease.

Compassionate Care:

Jimmy does not shy away from difficult patients.

We recently had a patient on the unit that was very difficult and time-consuming to care for. To give you a picture, she had lice, lengthy wound care that would take two hours to complete every other day, and was very particular about her care.

Jimmy worked with the patient every step of the way to make sure she felt comfortable and well cared for. He never sacrificed the quality of his care and truly went above and beyond.

After the second day in a row of caring for this patient, when the charge nurse asked if he would like to switch groups the next day, he declined and said he would care for her a third day, even though he knew that there would be wound care due that day.

He showed extreme patience in caring for this very challenging patient. This situation is just one example of the kind of care that Jimmy provides to every one of his patients. He is compassionate in every interaction.

Exemplary Service:

It is clear that Jimmy’s patients appreciate his care and recognize that he goes above and beyond. It is often that I enter one of Jimmy’s patients’ rooms as charge and they are raving about his care.

He has made a difference in the lives of many of his patients. Jimmy is often recognized by patients in “You Make the Difference” forms:
  • “Thank you for your kindness and professional service during my stay.” — Dec. 2025
  • “Thank you for making me smile on my dark days. Your calm presence and kindness shine through the darkest days. I won’t forget that. Thank you.” — Dec. 2025
  • “Jimmy, thank you for your care.” — Oct. 2025
  • “Jimmy—Thanks for being you! You are too cool for your own good! You work too hard! You need a vacation! And a RAISE!” — Oct. 2025

Additionally, Jimmy is always the first to offer a helping hand to his co-workers. He is the first to assist in an emergency or with an agitated patient. He is always checking in on those around him and offers help. He is a great team player and wants what is best for everyone.

Jimmy has also been recognized in “You Make the Difference” forms from staff:
  • “Thank you for being a Boss. Your patience and control are inspiring!!” — From a staff member, Dec. 2025
  • “Thank you for always taking one for the team! The unit is so lucky to have you.” — From a staff member, Dec. 2025

Continued Commitment:

Jimmy has shown a continued commitment to our floor and to this organization. This is best demonstrated by his career at Salem Hospital in his journey from CNA to Registered Nurse.

Jimmy started on our unit as a CNA in August 2018. Throughout his time on our unit, he has shown the willingness to go the extra mile. As a CNA, Jimmy worked as a unit clerk and was known as one of the go-to guys when you had a question. He was the kind of unit clerk and CNA who knew the unit operations so well that the charge nurse would go to him when they weren’t sure of an answer.

During that time, before CMR monitored telemetry, Jimmy also had to be trained on telemetry to work as a unit clerk (which was not typical for CNAs to be trained in). Jimmy acted as a preceptor in his CNA role and was one of the go-to CNAs to train oncoming staff.

Additionally, in the Fall of 2019, Jimmy was recognized with a Trillium Award for his outstanding care and quick response during a code blue. Jimmy started nursing school and ended up being a nursing student on our unit, requesting that as his placement because of his commitment to our unit and the patients we care for.

In 2023, Jimmy graduated from nursing school and started on our unit as a new graduate nurse. He quickly thrived in his nursing role, soon becoming a nurse preceptor to nursing students himself. He is kind to nursing students and always strives to give them the best experience.

Jimmy truly cares about his coworkers and his patients. Jimmy arrives at work with a positive attitude and always has a calm demeanor. Jimmy never complains and is the first person to sign up for a challenge. He strives to be the best nurse he can be every shift.

I hope I have demonstrated how every day Jimmy demonstrates the qualities of excellent clinical skills, above-and-beyond compassionate care, exemplary service, and continued commitment to excellence.

Jimmy is truly deserving of this DAISY Award.
