The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Team at Memorial Hermann Memorial City is an outstanding group of dedicated nurses! This team works tirelessly to provide exemplary care to the sickest of the sick as well as their families. They represent the inpatient cardiovascular, thoracic, and general surgery areas. We have an NP in pre-admission testing who orders and interprets the test results. This is a vital piece to the elective surgery process. At times, these results are abnormal. Catching these early can avoid delay in surgery or same-day cancellations, both of which are costly and frustrating to the patients and the hospital system.

Our inpatient NP's are in the cardiovascular service line, meaning they see and treat patients during the entirety of their surgical stay. They own the throughput of the patient. This optimizes patient care while remaining a good steward to Memorial's financial goals. The focus is always on patient quality as well as patient/family education. This holistic approach to care exemplifies Memorial Hermann's Vision and Values. The NP group has taken on a reduction in postoperative atrial fibrillation quality improvement project. They have partnered with our TMC campus in this. Early results have demonstrated a 30% reduction in afib and a decrease of 3 days in length of stay. This is just one example of how our NP team shines.
