It is with deep respect and genuine admiration that I nominate Victoria Bizerra, RN, for recognition of her exceptional courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the safety and wellbeing of her patients and team.

Recently, Victoria experienced what no healthcare professional should ever have to endure: she was physically assaulted by a patient while performing her duties. As healthcare continues to face unprecedented challenges related to mental illness and workplace violence, moments like this underscore the harsh reality of the environment in which nurses are now asked to serve. Our nursing team shows up every day to care for patients and families during their most vulnerable and heartbreaking moments—never with the expectation of being verbally or physically harmed.

In a moment that would cause anyone to falter, Victoria remained calm, composed, and profoundly professional. Her first instinct was not to focus on her own pain or fear, but instead to ensure the immediate safety of her colleagues, her department, and the surrounding patients. This selfless response reflects the very best of nursing: courage under pressure, compassion in crisis, and strength in the face of adversity.

Victoria's resilience in the aftermath of the incident has been equally inspiring. Despite experiencing something that could understandably shake a person's sense of safety, she is returning with grace, determination, and an even stronger commitment to her calling. Her actions remind us all of the incredible fortitude required to be a nurse today—and how fortunate we are to have individuals like Victoria serving on our team.

Victoria exemplifies strength, integrity, and the spirit of healing. She is a role model for her peers and a shining example of what it means to uphold the values of our profession even in the most challenging circumstances.
