To Kristi, these are never just room numbers or diagnoses; they are mothers, fathers, and children.

I am honored to nominate my wife, Kristi Loftin, for the DAISY Award. Having been married for 12 years and knowing her long before her career began, I have had a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of a healer. Kristi is a third-generation nurse, and that legacy of service is evident in every shift she works.

Kristi’s journey is defined by her relentless commitment to her patients and her craft. After serving with excellence as an LPN for 14 years, she made the selfless decision to return to school for her RN. I watched her balance the immense pressure of nursing school with the needs of our daughters, sacrificing time at home to ensure she could provide a higher level of care at the bedside. In 2025, she achieved that goal, and today, as an ICU nurse, she operates at the highest level of clinical complexity.

In the ICU, patients are often at their most vulnerable, and it is here that Kristi’s "superpower" shines. To Kristi, these are never just room numbers or diagnoses; they are mothers, fathers, and children. She treats every person under her care with the same fierce protection and dignity she gives to our own family. I see the toll the long shifts take, but more importantly, I see the joy that radiates from her when she knows she has made a difference in a life.

Beyond her clinical skill, Kristi has become a pillar of support for her unit. She finds genuine fulfillment in passing her decade-plus of knowledge down to the next generation of nurses, ensuring that the standard of "extraordinary care" continues long after her shift ends.

I may be biased as her husband, but I know that she is a hero to our children, she is a hero to me, and I know without a doubt she is the hero her patients need in their darkest hours. She represents the perfect balance of clinical expertise and deep, unwavering compassion that defines the very best of the nursing profession.
