As a patient in an ICU room on Unit 27, RN Alyssa Fitzgerald went above and beyond with her kindness and her time. When I was getting nervous, she assured me that everything was going to be okay, and it was thanks to her help that the situation turned out okay.

Among other things, she ended up kneeling next to me and bending over in the shower to apply two prescription treatments in an awkward, wet environment. She did not give up until we were able to accomplish this difficult and lengthy multi-step task. She then went out of her way to make sure my personal belongings, which may have been contaminated, were cleaned, covered, or safely secured, and an inventory and secure storage were acquired. She checked with management on the particular policies and advocated on my behalf.

Her patience and gentleness in trying to get my hair untangled, apply multiple treatments, shows her willingness to complete a task correctly and with compassion. 

Alyssa went beyond to make sure the doctor's orders were being fulfilled. I was moved out of the ICU room the next day. Alyssa found her way to my new location to make sure I was okay and everything was in order. She didn't have to do that, as I was no longer under her care and was in another unit.

I was having a bad day, and her smile and checking up on me shows she cares about her patients and helped me. She is a skilled nurse of the highest integrity, with intelligence and follow-through, and she thinks in advance about what the patient might need next, shows genuine compassion, listens to every concern, and creatively finds solutions to make things easier for her patients.

She is the best of the best. I am so grateful to have been under her care.
