Kate
MacCune
,
BSN, RN
Kate improves lives every day for the MAs, RNs, providers, and patients in our clinic. She demonstrates this in both meaningful and personal ways—whether it is something as simple as bringing in donuts on payday Fridays to show appreciation for her staff, or taking the time to understand how each member of our large team (80+ MA's and RN's) prefers to be recognized and supported.
Her vision for the clinic is reflected in the way she approaches every meeting and interaction—with preparation, intention, and a commitment to continually move the clinic forward. Kate consistently looks for opportunities to improve processes, strengthen teamwork, and enhance the experience for both patients and staff.
Kate also exemplifies compassion and human connection through the service recovery calls she makes to patients. She approaches each conversation with genuine empathy, patience, and understanding, ensuring patients feel heard and valued. Her goal is always to learn from each experience and find meaningful ways to make things better, demonstrating the UCHealth mission of improving lives in both big and small ways.
Kate leads by example and consistently models the behaviors she expects from her team. She approaches her role with humility and integrity, never asking others to take on responsibilities she would not be willing to carry herself. This approach builds credibility and trust across the team.
When staff bring forward concerns or challenges, Kate responds with grace, empathy, and thoughtful attention. She takes the time to listen, understand the situation, and work toward solutions that reflect fairness, respect, and strong ethical standards. Her calm and compassionate approach reassures staff that their concerns will be handled thoughtfully and with professionalism.
Through these actions, Kate fosters a culture where team members feel supported, respected, and confident that leadership will approach every situation with integrity, confidentiality and care.
Kate brings an incredible sense of positivity and energy to the clinic. Her presence is felt in every space she enters, and she consistently demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment to the team and our patients. Kate makes it a priority to be present and engaged in daily operations—attending MA and RN huddles and responding immediately when an alarm sounds in the clinic. By showing up in these moments, she leads by example and models the level of accountability, teamwork, and responsiveness she expects from her staff.
Kate also prioritizes recognizing and celebrating her team on a regular basis. Through weekly recognition and intentional appreciation, she reinforces a culture of support, respect, and shared success. Her efforts help uplift the team and create an environment where staff feel valued and motivated to provide excellent care.
Beyond her leadership, Kate brings a genuine sense of humanity to her role. She is the type of leader who can bring laughter and lightness to a challenging day, while also offering compassion and support when team members are facing difficult moments. Her ability to connect with people on a personal level fosters trust, strengthens morale, and inspires the team to work together toward better outcomes for both themselves and their patients.
Kate consistently promotes and enhances the image of nursing within the organization by demonstrating the critical role nurses play in leading patient-centered care, improving clinical outcomes, and strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration. She actively elevates the voice of nursing by ensuring that nurses are included in operational discussions, quality improvement initiatives, and workflow decisions that impact patient care.
Within the clinic, Kate advocates for nursing practice by supporting her RNs in practicing at the top of their license and encouraging professional growth and leadership development. She mentors staff, celebrates their achievements, and reinforces the importance of nursing expertise in delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality care. Through her leadership, nurses feel empowered to speak up, contribute ideas, and take pride in their role as essential members of the healthcare team.
Kate also enhances the image of nursing through the way she models compassionate, patient-centered care. Her commitment to service recovery and patient advocacy demonstrates the profound impact that nursing leadership can have on patient experience and trust in the healthcare system. Patients often experience firsthand the empathy, professionalism, and dedication that nurses bring to their care, which strengthens the reputation of nursing within the organization and the broader community.
