I would like to give a huge recommendation/nomination/shout-out to Sophie, who was my daughter's nurse during her stay in OB. My daughter is a first-time mom who gave birth to her son. Shortly after he was born, he was taken to the NICU for respiratory distress. This was a scary situation for my daughter. However, Sophie has made my daughter's stay in OB, away from her son, one that she and we as her family will always remember and appreciate. Sophie went out of her way on so many occasions to be able to answer all of our questions and calm our fears, for our daughter, having to be away from her son while in the NICU. She was so knowledgeable about everything. Her personality was beyond measurable and put us all at ease on so many levels. I have had family members who have had hospital stays at Carle throughout the years, and I do not recall one nurse who has matched the care that Sophie gave for our daughter. She advocated for her when there was a scheduling issue with the Guest House so that my daughter could stay nearby after being discharged, but having her son stay behind in the NICU. Thanks to her, my daughter was able to stay and be close to him. She helped to ease my daughter’s anxiety in so many ways. We can appreciate Sophie's dedication to her job caring for others.

After a very long and taxing labor and delivery, Sophie provided a calm presence during my postpartum recovery. Sophie took the time to listen to me and answer questions about my ongoing care. She provided education and thoroughly explained the available treatment options. When multiple providers were dictating conflicting care orders, Sophie took the initiative to facilitate a group meeting among the doctors to develop a cohesive plan of care. She also recognized the deteriorating state of my mental health and advocated for ongoing resources that would help me cope and heal. Sophie embodies the care every patient should receive!
