She did not just treat my symptoms — she treated me as a person.
Upon admission to the unit, I pressed the call light, and Vanetta responded quickly. When she arrived, she asked what I needed, and I told her I was in pain. In the past, my experience has usually been to receive medication based on physician orders without much discussion. This time was different. Vanetta took the time to truly listen to me. She asked thoughtful questions and carefully assessed my situation rather than immediately administering medication. Through her attentive assessment and willingness to listen, she determined that my IV needed to be changed. Once the IV was replaced, my pain was relieved, and I became much more comfortable without the need for additional medication. I have ongoing concerns with my kidney and liver health, and I am often uneasy about taking unnecessary medications because of the potential for further harm. Vanetta understood these concerns because she listened to me and acknowledged what was important to me. Her actions helped me avoid medications I was uncomfortable taking and made me feel safe, respected, and heard. Vanetta’s compassion, critical thinking, and patient-centered care made a meaningful difference in my experience. She did not just treat my symptoms — she treated me as a person. Because of her, I felt genuinely cared for, and my comfort and peace of mind were greatly improved.
