This level of compassion is not unique to this situation-it is simply who Ethan is.
During a difficult Code Blue in the Emergency Department, a young patient passed away. Multiple family members were present, including the patient's young children and her infant. Ethan Miller was an essential member of the team and played a critical role in giving this patient every possible chance.
Before the patient even arrived, Ethan prepared the room, helped assign team roles, and maintained a calm, steady presence that set the tone for everyone involved. Throughout the resuscitation, he performed multiple rounds of high-quality chest compressions and ensured compressors were rotated appropriately.
He remained actively engaged in every aspect of the code and demonstrated exceptional clinical judgment by recognizing the possibility of a pulmonary embolism and recommending treatment, which was promptly administered. When the time of death was called, Ethan immediately turned his attention to the family. He gently and quietly created space for them, ensuring they had privacy and support during the most devastating moment of their lives.
He stayed with them as long as they needed, offering comfort and compassion as they began to process an unexpected and unimaginable loss. This code was challenging in many ways, but Ethan's presence, professionalism, and teamwork will not be forgotten. His care did not end with the patient and family. After this emotionally taxing event, Ethan took time to check in with his coworkers to make sure they were okay.
When one colleague struggled to cope with the loss, Ethan was there offering support, reassurance, and guidance, and reminding them they were not alone. This level of compassion is not unique to this situation-it is simply who Ethan is. The family who experienced this devastating loss, and the team who stood beside him that day, will always remember the kindness, strength, and empathy he showed. Ethan cares deeply about everyone he encounters. This is what Mosaic is. This is Ethan.
