During the one of the most frightening and heartbreaking time of our lives, Natasha was a steady light in the darkness.

We would like to formally nominate a truly exceptional nurse for recognition, Natasha Akers. During the one of the most frightening and heartbreaking time of our lives, Natasha was a steady light in the darkness. As our loved one lay unresponsive, not waking up, not answering us, not giving us any sign that he could hear our voices. As a wife and daughter, we were scared in a way that is difficult to describe sitting at his bedside, watching monitors instead of his eyes, holding his hand and praying for movement. The uncertainty was overwhelming.

From the moment Natasha came on shift, this nurse treated him not as a room number or a diagnosis, but as a person. Even though he could not respond, she spoke to him gently every time she entered the room. She explained what she was doing before doing any procedure. She carefully suctioned him to keep him comfortable. She repositioned him frequently and thoughtfully to prevent discomfort and complications. She checked every line, every monitor, every detail never rushed, never careless. In a moment when we felt helpless, the care he was receiving was comforting. Just as importantly, she cared for us. She answered every question even the ones we asked more than once because fear makes it hard to remember. She explained medical information in ways we could understand. She never made us feel like we were in the way. She noticed when our voices shook. She saw our tears. She paused, made eye contact, and reassured us with patience and compassion. She constantly checked-in to see if we needed anything; providing extra blankets for the overnight stay.

We also witnessed that this was not an act reserved only for our family. As Natasha moved from room to room, we saw the same attentiveness, the same gentleness, the same excellence extended to every patient on the floor. Every alarm was answered promptly. Every concern was taken seriously. Every individual was treated with respect. Her standard of care did not change based on who was watching you could tell it was simply who she is.

In a time filled with fear and uncertainty, Natasha gave us something priceless: peace of mind. We trusted her completely. We knew that when she was on duty, our loved one was safe, monitored, and treated with dignity.

Clinical skill is essential in nursing and she demonstrated that flawlessly, but what sets her apart is her heart. Her compassion, her attentiveness, and her unwavering kindness transformed an unbearable situation into one we could endure. For her professionalism, her excellence in patient care, her emotional support of our family, and the extraordinary compassion she consistently demonstrates, we wholeheartedly and without hesitation nominate her for this Award. She is not only an outstanding nurse she is an angel to the families who need one most.
